Description:
This 3' - 10' shrub covers itself in small white blossoms from April to June followed by dark fruit which is relished by birds. Adaptable to sun or shade, and drought tolerant, Amelanchier can be used in many garden situations. Service Berry is found throughout the coast ranges, appearing as a low dense shrub in exposed sights, and making a delicate many tiered small tree in shady canyons where its light grey green leaves turn a rich yellow in fall. Berries are edible and have been used in jam, jellies, pancakes and wine.
