An attractive round-headed oak, native to mountain slopes and canyons of the Coast Ranges and Sierra foothills. It can grow from 20' to 60' tall, although around 30' high and wide is typical. The leaves are dark green and smooth or spiny edged with a golden fuzz on the underside. Adaptable to a variety of soils. The new leaves in the spring are red tinged, shiny, and very beautiful. As with most oaks, no water after the first summer is best.
