Description

This uncommon perennial is a member of the snapdragon family. The 3 to 5 foot tall stems are self supporting and grow from a woody caudex. Pink to reddish-purple flowers appear June-July. Antirrhinum virga grows in open places in chaparral, in rocky soil and often on serpentine. It can be found growing between 900-3500' in Lake, Sonoma, and Mendocino cos. Plant in a sunny dry spot in your garden with excellent drainage and give water only to establish.
