Carex densa - Dense Sedge

Description

This member of the sedge family is named for its dense, cushion-like growth form. This carex is wide spread in California and grows locally in the San Francisco Bay Area. In general, carex can grow in sun or shade, as long as they are in a place that is at least seasonally wet.
